“The surgical wounds of 40 cows with a standing clean laparotomy were assessed 10-15 days after surgery. The abdominal wall thickness on the upper (w1), the middle (w2) and the lower (w3) third
of the wound (and the contralateral flank n1, n2, and n3), the presence of edema, cavitary lesion, capsulated lesion, or visualization of shadow artifact in the wound were assessed ultrasonographically. On day 30, wound healing status (normal or surgical site infection (SSI)) was determined. Five out of 39 cows (12.8%) had SSI. A significant positive correlation was found between w3 and edema (p < 0.01:
r = 0.44), w3/n3 and edema (p < 0.05; r = 0.32), w3 and pain on wound palpation (p < 0.01; r = 0.41); w3/n3 and the presence of pain (p < 0.002; r = 0.49) and w2/n2 and pain when palpating the wound (p < 0.05: r = 0.33). No association was found between the ultrasonographic evidence of edema and SSI (p = 0.10), cavitary lesion and SSI (p = 0.65), encapsulated lesion and SSI (p = 1), and shadow artefact and SSI (p = 1). The wound ultrasonography 10-15 days after surgery was not predictive of abnormal OSI-027 wound healing. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.”
“We assessed fesoterodine efficacy and tolerability in women with overactive bladder (OAB).
This post hoc analysis of pooled data from two clinical trials included 1,548 women with OAB randomized to placebo, fesoterodine 4 or 8 mg, or tolterodine extended release (ER) 4 mg (in 1 trial) for 12 weeks. Subjects completed 3-day bladder diaries at GS-9973 baseline and weeks 2 and 12 and rated Treatment Response at weeks 2 and 12.
By weeks 2 and 12, all active-treatment groups showed significant improvements in all five bladder diary variables assessed and greater Treatment Response rates vs placebo. Fesoterodine 8 mg was significantly more efficacious than fesoterodine 4 mg and tolterodine ER in improving
urgency urinary incontinence episodes and continent days per week. The most common adverse events were dry mouth and constipation, which were predominately mild or moderate.
Fesoterodine is efficacious and well tolerated in women with OAB.”
“Silicon-rich silicon oxide (SRSO) and Er-doped SRSO (SRSO:Er) thin films were formed by pulsed laser deposition, and characterized by photoluminescence (PL), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-visible transmission in order to clarify the 1.54 mu m emission mechanism in the SRSO: Er films. The oxygen content of the films was varied by the adjustment of oxygen partial pressure. The behavior of the 1.54 mu m PL with oxygen partial pressure combined with XPS and XRD data show that the 1.54 mu m emission intensity is related to the amount of SiO(x) phase. This conclusion is well supported by the measurements of UV-visible transmission. In many previous papers, the 1.
