The theoretical query, concerning the developmental emergence of lexical item comprehension relative to their anticipation, was operationalized. Our study investigated the ways in which small, local organizations providing social care to older adults (70 years or older) were affected by, and adapted to, the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Climate variability on an interannual scale, particularly in the inaugural year of community assembly, contributes to short-term, unpredictable community developments. The long-term impact of these annual effects, whether creating transient or persistent states over decades, is less clear. Immunohistochemistry To assess the short-term (five-year) and long-term (decadal) effects of initial climate on prairie community formation, we implemented a prairie restoration project in four separate years (2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016), each experiencing varied climate conditions during the initial planting phase. Species composition was scrutinized in all four restored prairies over a period of five years, and in the two oldest restored prairies, established under average and extreme drought, for nine and eleven years, respectively. Significant compositional disparities arose between the four assembled communities in the inaugural restoration year, followed by progressive, parallel dynamic changes over time due to a temporary influx of annual volunteer species. The communities, initially populated with sown perennial species, eventually became entirely dominated by them, but the communities' distinctions were still evident after five years. Establishment-year rainfall during June and July directly impacted the early stages of community development, notably the diversity of species and the relative amounts of grasses versus forbs. Abundant rainfall in the initial year supported a higher proportion of grasses, and conversely, drier conditions favored an increased presence of forbs in the restored plant communities. Restorations subjected to average and drought conditions for nine to eleven years showed stable differences in community composition, species richness, and grass/forb cover. Minimal yearly shifts in the community make-up of each prairie indicate persistent and distinct states on a decadal timescale. Hence, unpredictable shifts in climate conditions within a year can bring about alterations in community structure over a period of ten or more years.
